Fast Talk & Cozy Feels

I read Talking as Fast as I Can back in 2019, and it still makes me smile when I think about it. Some books feel like catching up with an old friend over coffee, and this was exactly that. If you’ve ever fallen in love with Gilmore Girls (as I have, repeatedly), then reading this book is like stepping back into Stars Hollow with a cozy sweater and a cup of coffee in hand.

Lauren Graham writes the way Lorelai Gilmore talks-fast, funny, a little scattered, but always from the heart. Her voice on the page is warm and self-deprecating, and I loved how it felt like she wasn’t trying to be anything other than herself. From reflections on her early auditions to behind-the-scenes moments from Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, there’s a charming honesty throughout.

I especially enjoyed the chapter on returning to Gilmore Girls for the Netflix revival (A Year in the Life). Her excitement, nervousness, and gratitude are all there, and I felt like I was right alongside her, reliving those magical moments. She even kept a journal during filming, which she shares parts of, and it’s funny, sweet, and surprisingly moving.

This isn’t a book full of deep life lessons, and that’s exactly what made it so refreshing. It was just fun like flipping through a scrapbook with someone you already adore. And sometimes, that’s exactly the kind of book you need.
